Inside the Italian restaurant with a difference coming to Hampstead
from Ham&High by Frankie Lister-Fell
Deep-fried custard, baked aniseed donuts and terracotta walls imported straight from the Italian countryside – a special dining experience is coming to Hampstead.
Rossodisera in Covent Garden is the only restaurant in the UK specialising in food from Le Marche, a region in central Italy.
The Hampstead restaurant will be at 70 Heath Street ….
…
All ingredients are imported from the region, and even the sand-coloured walls at the Covent Garden restaurant were shipped over, having come from Igor’s father’s 19th-century house in the countryside. They will also feature in the Hampstead restaurant, along with a big green door from a building in the city centre of Igor’s home town. Empty bottles of wine from Le Marche will become lamps.

On Easter time, let’s play ‘Scoccetta’
“Christmas with the yours, Easter what you want, Peace between Blur and Oasis!” As the Italian band, Elio e Le Storie Tese sing in one of their songs.
Easter is such an important food moment in Le Marche, to be spent with what you want, who you want.
In Le Marche, it’s not Easter if you don’t eat lamb, olive all’ascolana, the Easter dove (la Colomba Pasquale), the cheese-pizza (pizza col formaggio) and piconi, delicious cheese-filled baked ravioli to be consumed together with cured meat.

Eggs have a very important role on our tables, of course, not only the chocolate ones. To play Scoccetta we need a A LOOOOOT of boiled eggs.
BUT WHAT’S SCOCCETTA?
Scoccetta is a traditional game well known in the South of Le Marche, Ascoli Piceno, where two players hit two hard-boiled eggs one with another.
You need to hold your hard-boiled egg, and with the pointy side towards the opponent’s egg, hit it. Not too hard, not too soft. Whoever breaks the egg loses and is forced to give their broken egg to the opponent who will take it to the Easter table.
It’s a must-play tradition and no Easter lunch would start without first a “Scoccetta” Tournament with friends and family.

Pretty easy uh? Now that you know the rules, give it a go!
Boil your eggs and fight against your friends to become the Absolute Winner of Scoccetta!
* HAPPY EASTER *

Sfrappe, Cicerchiata, Scroccafusi: the traditional sweets of Le Marche’s Carnival
È CARNEVALE!
SO HERE ARE, our favourite time of the year is back. Even if Carnival 2021 has been canceled, nobody can stop us from dreaming, eating, and finally cooking, the most delicious sweets from Le Marche’s tradition. We’d like to wish everyone a GIOVEDÌ GRASSO (fat Thursday) with some colourful and tasty inspirations 🌈
Bear in mind this verb: TO FRY, which rhimes with fly (for obvious reasons).
We have selected some of our Region’s culinary gems that really make people come together. Well, let’s start.
1. SFRAPPE or CARNIVAL CHIACCHIERE
The tasty Frappe are a must-eat, the typical desserts of the Carnival in Central Italy, characterized by small stripes of crispy dough fried in oil and covered with powdered sugar. They are well appreciated for their friability and lightness. Sprinkled with Alchermes (an Italian liqueur), it’s “la morte sua” (it suits perfectly).

2. SCROCCAFUSI, aka CASTAGNOLE
Let’s admit it. Castagnole are the quintessence of the Carnival, from giovedì grasso to martedì grasso we can’t live without. They are balls of dough fried and covered with sugar. Remember the Alchermes? GO ON.
It just makes them even better (impossible right?).

3. ARANCINI
Not the Sicilian ones, stuffed with meat ragu, of course. Arancini or orange sugared pinwheels are typical to Le Marche and difficult to find in other regions of Italy. They get their name from arancia, orange, because of their round shape and golden color, and for the perfumed orange sugar that’s rolled inside the sweet dough of these pastries. FRY FRY FRY.
Feeling creative? Read the full recipe from MAMMAGRAZIELLA

4. CICERCHIATA
La Cicerchiata is a sort of heap of little balls of dough, made of flour, sugar, eggs and oil.
The little balls are fried and covered with hot honey and almonds: when the honey gets cold, makes the sweet quite hard.
5. RAVIOLI FILLED WITH CHESTNUT
Sorry, no drawing here. We couldn’t handle it 🤤
